Mobile apps have been around for some time. Today there over 150,000! Everyday a new one is introduced to the public. Can apps be of use in homecare? More specifically, for homecare agencies, associations and vendors?
The answer is YES! And here are my top 5 reasons.
First let’s define a mobile app.
An App or mobile application is a software programs on your smartphone. You have probably hear of app or have seen the icons on your phone. Each app is designed by their creators (usually companies) so that you can find your specific set of wants and needs. Most users use email, internet access, and depending upon their preferences, music, games and general of specific knowledge. Apps are generally easy to find in a marketplace website like the Android Market. They are easy to use and will quickly become a part of your daily life.
Now back to my top 5 reason mobile apps will be important in homecare.
1. Smartphone Growth
Smartphones, where apps are located, are growing. Why?
> Economics. Prices have come down.
> Technology. Old phone models are simply being replaced by newer, more functional smartphones.
More smartphones means more apps
2. Replacing computers
Think of your smartphone as a small computer because that what it is becoming. People are now using some programs on their phone previously been performed by a laptop or desktop.
I now use mine for driving instructions instead of my computer.
3. Easy to Shop
It’s easy and fun to shop for mobile apps. There is something for everyone…even homecare now that our app Homecare Post is available. In fact, the first one for homecare consumers and providers. Have you downloaded it yet? If not go to the Android Market and search for Homecare Post. Download the app…it’s free.
4. Always with you
Mobile devices are becoming so personal and a part of everyone’s home that they are with you 24/7. Just like your car keys and wallet, you won’t leave home without them. Apps are connected to that trend. I check my weather, stock quotes and company news on my app frequently.
5. Technology improvements
Smartphones are getting faster, better, easier and cheaper all the time. It’s now your phone, camera, TV, radio, theater and message center in the palm of your hand. All of these come in some form of application.
Those are my top five reasons. I’m sure you have others. Looking ahead, I believe that it won’t take long before every association, agency and vendor has a mobile app to communicate with their patients, members or employees.
